The details that matter
Explore the hand-finished texture, polished gold and fit of your Ember solid gold rook hoop.
1. Why you’ll love it
Ember brings a little detail to the inner upper fold of your ear. Its upper half keeps the smooth curve of polished round wire, while the outer circumference of the lower half carries irregular impressions made by hand.
With a suitable fit, the smooth section passes through the rook piercing and the textured lower curve remains outside the piercing channel. The visible arc and wearing angle depend on your ear shape, piercing position and chosen diameter.
Every ring is hammered individually, without a repeating pattern. Broad, shallow marks sit beside smaller impressions, with naturally varied depth, direction and spacing. Wear Ember on its own, or pair it with simple lobe hoops for a gentle mix of polished gold and texture.
2. Material & finish
Made from 14ct solid gold, never plated or gold-filled.
- Choose yellow, white or rose gold
- Fine round-wire hoop with a smooth, polished upper half
- Irregular hand-hammered texture on the outer circumference of the lower half
- Smooth wire on both sides of a discreet, flat-cut seam
- Each ring has its own naturally varied hammer marks
- Handmade to order for fully healed rook piercings
The photographs show the design and style of finish. Your ring will have its own arrangement of impressions.
3. Choosing your size
Available in 4–8mm inner diameters, with your choice of 20G (0.8mm), 18G (1.0mm) or 16G (1.2mm). The inner diameter influences how the hoop sits beneath your rook fold:
- 4–5mm: the smallest options, only where your anatomy and piercing position allow a comfortable fit
- 6mm: a middle option to compare with a hoop you already wear
- 7–8mm: more room and a more visible lower curve
These are relative comparisons, not a fit guarantee. Choose the same gauge as your current well-fitting jewellery. Gauge describes the smooth round wire passing through the piercing; the hammered surface has small natural variations.
Rook anatomy varies, and a hoop will sit differently from a curved barbell. Ask your piercer to confirm that a hoop is suitable for your healed placement and which diameter and gauge you need.
4. Wearing your seamless hoop
Open the hoop by gently twisting the ends sideways in opposite directions. Do not pull them directly apart, as this can distort the circle.
Guide a smooth round-wire end through your fully healed rook piercing, keeping the textured section outside the piercing channel. Gently twist the flat-cut ends back into alignment until they meet neatly.
The rook can be difficult to reach. Ask a professional piercer to help with fitting if you are unsure, and check that the lower curve has room to sit without pressing into the surrounding cartilage.
