Standard 6mm, 7mm and 8mm hoops don’t always fit perfectly. If one size feels too tight and the next feels too loose, a 0.5mm half-size hoop may give your healed piercing the fit you actually wanted.
Shop 5.5mm, 6.5mm, 7.5mm, 8.5mm, 9.5mm and 10.5mm 14ct solid gold seamless hoops, made to order for healed piercings.
Tell us what you’re wearing now and how it feels. We’ll suggest the half size most likely to give you a more comfortable fit. This is a starting point — piercing placement and individual anatomy always have the final say.

5.5mm
Smaller than 6mm
For very close-fitting healed placements where 6mm still feels slightly roomy. Best for customers who already know they need a very small inner diameter.
Most seamless hoops are sold in whole millimetres. On small piercings like nostril, helix, tragus and forward helix, a 1mm jump is a visible, tactile difference. A half-size hoop sits exactly between two standard sizes — the fit whole numbers can’t give you.
A seamless hoop has no clasp or hinge to compensate for an imperfect fit. Once closed, it’s either right against your anatomy or it isn’t. On large jewellery this rarely matters — but on a 7mm nostril hoop, a 1mm change is about 14% of the inner diameter. Half sizes exist because that’s often the size most people actually need on a healed nose or cartilage piercing.
The two problems half sizes solve
1. The next size up is too loose. Your 6mm hoop feels tight against the skin. Going up to 7mm leaves a visible gap that catches on hair and clothes. A 6.5mm relieves the pressure without the drape.
2. The next size down is too tight. Your 8mm droops or rotates. Going to 7mm sounds right — until it presses uncomfortably on the piercing. A 7.5mm gives the tighter look without the pinch.
Half sizes are not a fix for new piercings
If your piercing is still healing, follow your piercer’s advice and keep the jewellery they fitted. Our seamless hoops — whole or half size — are intended for piercings that are fully healed.
Where can half-size hoops be worn?
Half sizes earn their place on small piercings, where a single millimetre is a visible difference, and on mid-size placements where you sit between standard sizes.
Not every half size suits every piercing placement. Your anatomy, piercing angle and healed channel position matter, so use these placement notes as a starting point rather than a fixed rule.
Half size vs standard size
Standard sizes work for most people. Half sizes exist for the moments they don’t.
Standard whole size

How to check if you need a half size
1
Measure what you’re wearing now
Lay your current hoop flat on a millimetre ruler and measure from one inner edge to the opposite inner edge.
2
Decide which direction it’s wrong in
Too tight (presses or marks the skin) — go up. Too loose (drapes, catches, rotates a lot) — come down. If it’s close but not quite right, you’re a half-size candidate.
3
Choose the 0.5mm step
Pick the half size between your current size and the next standard size in the right direction. When in doubt, choose comfort over tightness — a hoop should sit close without pressing, marking the skin or pulling on the piercing.

Need help choosing your half size?
Not sure between 6.5mm, 7.5mm or 8.5mm?
Send us a photo of your current hoop in place, tell us what feels off, and we’ll suggest a starting size. If you need a larger half size than the ones listed on this page, contact us and we’ll let you know what we can offer.
What size should I choose if 7mm is too tight but 8mm is too loose?
If your piercing is fully healed and 7mm feels tight while 8mm leaves too much visible space, 7.5mm is usually the half size to consider. It sits between the two standard sizes and can give a closer fit without the pressure of 7mm.
Is a half-size nose hoop worth it?
For a healed nostril piercing that sits between two standard sizes, yes. On small piercings like the nostril, a 1mm change is about 14% of the inner diameter on a 7mm hoop — visible on the face and tactile against the skin. A half size can solve the “6mm too tight, 7mm too loose” problem without forcing you to compromise on either fit or comfort. If your standard 6mm or 7mm already feels right, you don’t need a half size.
What is a half-size seamless hoop?
A half-size seamless hoop is a ring with an inner diameter that sits between two standard whole millimetre sizes — for example 6.5mm sits exactly between 6mm and 7mm. Our half sizes run from 5.5mm to 10.5mm in 0.5mm steps, designed for piercings where a standard whole size feels slightly too tight or slightly too loose.
Is half size the same as gauge?
No. Half size refers to the inner diameter of the hoop, such as 6.5mm or 7.5mm. Gauge refers to the thickness of the wire, such as 16G, 18G or 20G. You need both the right diameter and the right gauge for a comfortable fit.
Who should choose a half-size hoop?
Anyone with a healed piercing whose current hoop sits between standard sizes. Half sizes are particularly useful on small piercings like nostril, helix, tragus and forward helix, where 1mm is a visible and tactile difference. If your piercing is still healing, follow your piercer’s aftercare advice rather than trying to fine-tune the fit.
Are half-size hoops suitable for new piercings?
No. Our seamless hoops — whole and half size — are intended for fully healed piercings. New piercings need the jewellery your piercer fitted and the healing time they recommended.
What if I’m not sure which half size to choose?
Use the size finder above, or check the quick reference table. If you’re still unsure, message us with a photo of your current hoop in place and tell us what feels off. Because each ring is made to order, we’d rather help you confirm the size before we begin than have you order the wrong one.
Can I request a larger half-size hoop than 10.5mm?
Possibly — contact us and we’ll let you know what we can offer. We list 5.5–10.5mm on this page because that’s the range where half sizes most clearly solve a fit problem.
