Fit Helper

Is 5.5mm right for you?

Choose 5.5mm if 5mm feels too tight but 6mm still leaves more space than you want. It is a very small half-size for healed piercings that sit close to the edge.

SizeFit feelBest for
5mmExtremely tiny / very tightOnly very low placements with very thin tissue
5.5mmExtra snug / very closeWhen 5mm is too tight but 6mm still looks slightly loose
6mmSnug and more commonA safer small-hoop starting point if you are unsure

5.5mm is intentionally small. If you are unsure, 6mm is usually the safer small-hoop starting point.

Half Size Fit

When standard sizes feel almost right, but not quite

Some customers do not need a completely different style. They already know a small hoop works, but the usual sizes are just a little off: 5mm feels too tight, 6mm still shows a touch of space, and a stud is not the look they want.

5.5mm is for the person who finds 5mm too tight and already knows a 6mm hoop is close - but still not close enough.

Suitable Placements

May suit very small, fully healed placements

This extra-small hoop can work beautifully when the piercing sits very close to the edge and the tissue is not thick or swollen.

Very low nostril placements
Tiny forward helix placements
Some very small tragus piercings
Very close-fitting helix placements
Small healed lobe piercings
5.5mm is not a universal size. It is only suitable when your piercing sits very close to the edge and your current 6mm hoop still looks slightly too loose. If your piercing sits higher, deeper, or has thicker tissue around it, choose a larger diameter.

Size Difference

5mm vs 5.5mm vs 6mm: what is the difference?

The 0.5mm difference is small on paper, but it can noticeably change how closely a tiny hoop sits against the skin. 5.5mm sits between the very tiny 5mm fit and the more common 6mm fit.

Gauge Guide

Choose your gauge

A 5.5mm hoop is already very small, so gauge matters. If you are unsure, check the jewellery you currently wear or ask your piercer.

GaugeLook / feelBest for
22GFinest, most delicateVery tiny healed piercings
20GDelicate everyday choiceMany nostril and small cartilage piercings
18GSlightly stronger lookIf your piercing is already fitted for 18G
16GThicker and more structuredOnly if you know your piercing wears 16G

Metal Colour

Choose 14ct yellow gold or 14ct rose gold

Both options are genuine solid 14ct gold. Choose the colour that works best with your skin tone and the jewellery you already wear.

14ct Yellow Gold

Classic warm gold, bright and timeless. A clean choice if most of your jewellery is traditional yellow gold.

14ct Rose Gold

Softer, warmer and more subtle on the skin. Our rose gold option is solid 14ct rose gold, not rose gold plated.

Material Trust

Tiny hoop, real solid gold

Because a 5.5mm hoop sits very close to the skin, material matters even more. This hoop is made from solid 14ct gold wire for long-term everyday wear.

14ct Solid Gold

Not plated. Not gold-filled. Solid 14ct gold, handmade to order for fully healed piercings.

Gold-Plated

Surface coating can wear away over time, exposing the base metal underneath.

Surgical Steel

Some surgical steel alloys contain nickel, which may not suit everyone with sensitive healed piercings.

Important Fit Note

For fully healed piercings only

This 5.5mm seamless hoop is designed for healed piercings only. It is not suitable for fresh, healing, irritated or swollen piercings.

Measure Before Ordering

How to check if 5.5mm may fit

Measure from the centre of your piercing hole to the outer edge of the area where the hoop will sit. For a nostril piercing, measure from the centre of your piercing hole to the lower edge of the nostril where the hoop will wrap around.
Compare that measurement with your current hoop.
If that distance is already close to 5.5mm, this size may fit closely. If the distance is more than 5.5mm, choose 6mm or 6.5mm instead.
If you already wear 6mm and want a closer fit, 5.5mm may be worth considering.
If you have never worn a small hoop before, start with 6mm instead.

Common Questions

About the 5.5mm seamless hoop

Is 5.5mm smaller than a standard nose hoop?

Yes. 5.5mm is smaller than 6mm and is intended for an extra-close fit.

Is 5.5mm too small for most people?

It may be too small for many piercings. 5.5mm is an extra-small half size for very close healed placements. If you are unsure, 6mm or 6.5mm is usually a safer starting point.

Who should choose a 5.5mm seamless hoop?

Choose 5.5mm if your piercing is fully healed, sits close to the edge, and 6mm still looks slightly too loose.

Is 5.5mm suitable for nostril piercings?

It can suit very low healed nostril placements, but it is not a universal nostril size. If your nostril piercing sits higher or your nose tissue is thicker, choose 6mm or larger.

Is 5.5mm comfortable?

It can be comfortable only when the piercing placement is right. If the hoop presses, pulls or leaves marks, it is too small.

What gauge should I choose for 5.5mm?

20G gives a delicate everyday look, 18G is slightly thicker, 22G is the finest option, and 16G should only be chosen if you know your piercing is already fitted for 16G.

Is rose gold still solid gold?

Yes. Choose 14ct rose gold if you prefer a softer colour. It is solid 14ct rose gold, not rose gold plated.

Is this hoop suitable for new piercings?

No. It is only for fully healed piercings.

What if 5.5mm is too small?

Choose 6mm instead. If you are between 5.5mm and 6mm, 6mm is usually the safer close fit.
