Why Stepoy

Crafted with care, designed for healing

We're not a mass-production jewellery brand. Every Stepoy ring is handmade to order from genuine 14K solid gold wire — shaped, smoothed, and quality-checked individually before it reaches you.

We specialise in piercing jewellery because we believe the material you wear matters, especially during healing. 14K gold is biocompatible, hypoallergenic, and won't tarnish or react with your skin — which is exactly what a fresh piercing needs.

Each piece is made to your precise specifications: your size, your gauge, your piercing location. No compromises, no "close enough."

Why Choose Solid Gold

14K gold vs the alternatives

Understanding why material matters for piercing jewellery.

14K Solid Gold

Biocompatible and hypoallergenic. Won't tarnish, flake, or cause reactions. Safe for long-term wear in healing piercings. The gold standard — literally.

Gold-Plated

Thin gold layer over base metal. Wears off within months, exposing nickel or brass underneath. Can cause irritation, bumps, and allergic reactions during healing.

Surgical Steel

Contains nickel. Affordable but not ideal for sensitive piercings or long healing periods. Can cause contact dermatitis in nickel-sensitive individuals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about piercing jewellery

Is 14K solid gold safe for new piercings?
Yes. 14K solid gold is one of the safest materials for piercing jewellery. It's biocompatible, hypoallergenic, and contains no nickel — making it ideal for fresh and healing piercings. Unlike gold-plated jewellery, solid gold won't flake or expose reactive base metals over time. Many professional piercers recommend 14K gold as a premium alternative to implant-grade titanium.
What's the difference between 14K solid gold and gold-plated?
14K solid gold is genuine gold all the way through — it will never tarnish, flake, or expose a different metal underneath. Gold-plated jewellery has a thin gold coating over a base metal (usually brass or nickel). This coating wears off with time, especially in piercings where the jewellery is in constant contact with healing tissue. For piercing jewellery, solid gold is the safer and longer-lasting choice.
How do I choose the right size for my piercing?
The ideal size depends on your piercing location and personal preference. For helix piercings, 6-8mm hoops are most popular. For daith piercings, 7-8mm tends to work best. Nose rings are typically 6-8mm for nostril and 8-10mm for septum. If you're unsure, visit our piercing guides — each one includes specific sizing advice for that location. We also offer half sizes (e.g. 6.5mm, 7.5mm) for a more precise fit.
What gauge should I choose?
Most ear cartilage piercings (helix, rook, daith, conch, tragus) use 18G or 20G. Septum piercings typically use 16G or 18G. Nostril piercings are usually 20G or 22G. If you're not sure of your gauge, ask your piercer — they can measure your current jewellery. Wearing the wrong gauge can cause discomfort or damage to your piercing.
How long does delivery take within the UK?
Because each piece is handmade to order, please allow 3-5 working days for crafting. Delivery within the UK is free and tracked, and typically takes an additional 2-3 working days. We'll send you a tracking number as soon as your order ships.
Can I wear your jewellery in a healing piercing?
Our 14K solid gold rings are suitable for healed piercings. For fresh piercings, we recommend keeping your initial jewellery (placed by your piercer) until the piercing is fully healed — typically 3-12 months depending on the location. Once healed, our seamless hoops are an ideal upgrade. Each of our piercing guides includes specific timelines for when it's safe to change jewellery.
