A little help with the fit

How to choose your daith ring size

Not sure where to start? Let’s work through it.

GaugeHow thick the wire is.
Inner diameterThe space inside the hoop.

Find the question you came with

I don’t know my daith ring size. Where do I start?Your current jewellery is a useful starting point, even if its size is unknown.

First check your original jewellery order or ask the studio that fitted it. Look for gauge and inner diameter.

If you don’t have those measurements, a piercer can measure your jewellery and check which round hoop suits your placement. A daith sits in a tucked-away fold, so its angle and the space inside your ear matter as well as the size of the circle.

You’re welcome to contact us without knowing your size. Tell us what you currently wear and whether you would like a smaller-looking hoop or more room, and we’ll explain what to check next.

Should I choose a 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm or 10mm hoop?A smaller circle is not automatically a better fit.

Available inner diameters are 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm and 10mm. These are product options, rather than recommendations for every daith piercing.

The fold the jewellery passes through, the piercing angle and nearby structures affect how much room you need. A 6mm ring may be too small even if you like the look of a tiny hoop.

Start with a known comfortable round hoop or an in-person fitting. A model’s size won’t necessarily give you the same look.

If your comfortable fit is larger than 10mm, please don’t choose a smaller ring just to fit the available options.

What are 18G and 20G? How do I know mine?Gauge is wire thickness, separate from the ring’s diameter.
18G1.0mm wire
20G0.8mm wire

Check your piercing record or jewellery order for G / gauge or wire thickness. If it is unknown, ask your piercer to measure the jewellery.

Currently wearing 16G? That is 1.2mm wire, so both options here are thinner. Please ask your piercer whether either suits your healed daith before ordering.

These are the gauges offered for this product, not a general daith gauge recommendation. Don’t choose thinner wire simply to make the hoop look more delicate, or force thicker wire through a narrower channel.

Can I measure the space inside my ear myself?Visible space alone won’t tell you the right diameter.

A daith’s entry and exit points can be difficult to see, and a front view doesn’t show the full fold the ring needs to pass around.

Please don’t put a ruler, paper or other tools into the fold or piercing. Measuring the visible gap is not a reliable way to choose your first daith hoop.

If you have no known ring size, a piercer can check the fit in person without relying on an estimate from the visible space.

How close should a daith hoop sit?It should sit comfortably without squeezing the fold.

A small-looking hoop still needs enough room around the tissue it passes through. It shouldn’t pinch the fold, pull at the holes or press uncomfortably against nearby parts of the ear.

If it points outward, the piercing angle and anatomy can affect how it sits. A smaller diameter won’t necessarily make it lie flat.

If your current ring feels tight, leaves an indentation or causes discomfort, have the fit checked. Please don’t keep sizing down to remove every visible gap.

Can I use the size of my current ring or clicker?Compare the inside measurements and the shape.

A comfortable round hoop with a known gauge and inner diameter is a useful reference.

A clicker with a straight bar, an oval ring, a heart or a curved barbell has a different internal shape. Its labelled size may not translate directly to a round seamless hoop. A curved barbell’s length is not a hoop’s diameter.

INNER DIAMETERExclude the wire on both sides
Measurement illustration · not to scale

If you have a spare round hoop, measure straight across its centre from inner edge to inner edge. Exclude the wire. An 18G ring with an 8mm inner diameter is approximately 10mm across the outside.

Avoid removing your worn daith jewellery just to measure it if you aren’t confident changing it. A piercer can help; even healed piercings can shrink when left empty.

Can you help from a photo?Photos help us discuss the look, but cannot confirm an exact fit.

Of course. Send a clear whole-ear photo and a closer view of the daith without pulling the ear or moving the ring for the camera.

Tell us what you currently wear, whether it feels comfortable and what you’d like to change. Include any measurements you know; it’s fine if you don’t have them.

A photo cannot reliably confirm gauge, exact inner diameter or whether the piercing is ready for a change. We may suggest an in-person fitting before you order.

Can I fit this seamless hoop myself?A daith can be tricky to reach, even when fully healed.

STEPOY seamless hoops are for fully healed piercings. If yours is tender, swollen, producing crust or you’re unsure whether it has healed, ask your piercer to check it before changing jewellery.

This is a twist-open hoop. The ends move sideways to open and close; it doesn’t have a hinged clicker mechanism. For a daith, having a piercer fit it can make it easier to align and close the seam properly.

A gap or misaligned seam can irritate the piercing. If you can’t close it neatly, ask for help rather than leaving the seam open or repeatedly manipulating it in your ear.

What about different designs or wearing earbuds?Check where the whole piece sits, as well as its measurements.

For Solis, Ember and other daith designs, compare the gauge and inner diameter, then look at where any wrapped wire, texture or decoration will sit within your ear.

For a healed daith, earbud comfort depends on your ear, the hoop and the earbud. If an earbud presses on the jewellery or causes discomfort, don’t force it in. Choosing a smaller ring doesn’t guarantee clearance.

Matching size numbers don’t guarantee an identical fit across designs. You’re welcome to show us your current piece and the design you’d like to compare.

The details that matter

A refined daith hoop handmade to complement the natural curve of your ear.

1. Why you’ll love it

A clean, minimal hoop designed to sit within the inner fold of your ear. Its simple seamless shape follows the natural curve of a healed daith piercing and pairs easily with the rest of your ear stack.

Designed for fully healed daith piercings.

2. Material & finish

Made from genuine 14ct solid gold — never plated or gold-filled.

  • Available in yellow, white or rose gold
  • Nickel-free
  • Suitable for sensitive, fully healed piercings
  • Made for long-term everyday wear
  • Will not flake or reveal a base metal
3. Choosing your size

The inner diameter determines how closely the hoop sits within your ear:

  • 7mm: a close fit for smaller anatomy
  • 8mm: compact and understated
  • 9mm: a balanced, more visible curve
  • 10mm: a roomier, more prominent look

Choose the same gauge as your current jewellery. 16G is common for daith piercings, while 18G creates a slightly finer look.

Daith anatomy varies, and this piercing can be difficult to measure yourself. If you are unsure, ask your piercer to confirm your diameter and gauge.

4. Wearing your seamless hoop

Open the hoop by gently twisting the ends sideways in opposite directions. Do not pull the ends directly apart, as this can distort its shape.

Guide one end through your healed piercing, then twist the ends back into alignment. If the piercing is difficult to reach, ask a professional piercer to fit it for you.

5. What’s included

Your order includes:

  • Your handmade 14ct solid gold daith hoop
  • STEPOY jewellery box
  • STEPOY gift bag
