NOSE RING SIZE COMPARISON · E6
These three inner diameters sit only half a millimetre apart, yet the result may look and feel quite different on a small nostril hoop. This guide helps you compare them before choosing.

THE SHORT ANSWER
6mm may give the neatest result, but only when that close fit is already known to be comfortable.
6.5mm is the useful in-between choice when 6mm seems a touch tight and 7mm a touch loose.
7mm offers more clearance, although it is not automatically the safer or better size for every nostril.
AT A GLANCE
The inner diameter is measured across the open space inside the hoop. It does not include the thickness of the gold wire.
USE YOUR CURRENT HOOP AS EVIDENCE
If you know the diameter of a hoop you already wear, its behaviour gives you a more useful starting point than a photograph of someone else’s nose.
Moving up by 0.5mm may provide useful clearance, although gauge and piercing angle should also be checked.
Moving down by 0.5mm may create a closer line, provided the smaller diameter does not place pressure on the piercing.
Measure the inside space of the hoop with a millimetre ruler or callipers, or confirm the original order details before changing size.
WHY THE SAME SIZE LOOKS DIFFERENT
A channel further from the nostril edge usually needs more diameter to reach around it comfortably.
The curve and thickness of the tissue influence the gap visible beneath the hoop.
An angled channel may make the same hoop tilt or sit differently from a straight one.
Thicker wire changes the visual weight, but it remains a separate measurement from diameter.
TWO MEASUREMENTS, TWO DECISIONS
For example, a 6.5mm × 20G hoop has a 6.5mm inner diameter and a 0.8mm wire thickness. The same 6.5mm diameter in 18G uses a thicker 1.0mm wire. Confirm both before ordering.

Each STEPOY hoop is handmade to the specification selected. Checking the inner diameter, gauge and pierced side before ordering may help reduce an avoidable fit mismatch.

If the piercing is unhealed, irritated or difficult to size, a professional piercer may be the most appropriate person to check the fit in person.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
It can be for some anatomies, but not for all. A 6mm inner diameter may suit a very close, already-confirmed fit. If the hoop presses, pulls or leaves an indentation, a larger diameter may be more comfortable.
The inner diameter differs by 1mm. On a small nostril hoop that can noticeably change the gap beneath the nostril, the angle of the ring and how freely it moves.
A 6.5mm hoop may be useful when 6mm feels slightly too close and 7mm looks slightly too loose. It is a more precise middle option rather than a universally better size.
No. Gauge describes the thickness of the wire, while diameter describes the space across the inside of the hoop. Both should be selected separately.
