A little help with the fit

How to choose your nostril ring size

Choosing a double spiral? Check the gauge, diameter and spiral direction.

GaugeHow thick the wire is.
Inner diameterThe space inside each loop.

For this double spiral, the diameter refers to each loop. A single hoop is a useful reference, but the double design also needs room for both loops. Choose left-hand or right-hand spiral separately; if you are unsure about the winding direction, please ask us before ordering.

Find the question you came with

I don’t know my size. Can I measure my nose?Yes — for a placement reference, not a guaranteed ring size.

If you don’t have a hoop to measure, you can take a reference measurement beside your nostril.

  1. Look straight into a mirror with your face relaxed.
  2. Hold a small millimetre ruler beside your nostril, without pressing into the skin.
  3. Look at the distance from the centre of the piercing to the nostril edge where you expect the hoop to pass.

Keep that number as a placement reference. It does not fully account for nostril thickness, the piercing angle or the curve of the ring, so it is not automatically the inner diameter to order.

Do not put paper, a ruler or another object into your piercing. There is no universal “add 1mm” rule that guarantees the fit.

For your first hoop: ask a piercer to check the fit around your nostril and write down both the recommended gauge and inner diameter. The measurement above can help you explain your placement, but it cannot tell you the wire thickness.

Should I choose 6mm, 7mm or 8mm?These are ring diameters — not small, medium and large nose sizes.

A smaller inner diameter makes a smaller circle. Whether it fits depends on your piercing’s position, nostril shape and thickness.

An 8mm hoop can sit close on one nose and leave a gap on another. A larger hoop may be needed to fit someone’s anatomy comfortably, rather than to create an oversized look.

Choose the fit around your own piercing. A model’s size, or a size described as “popular”, is not a reliable starting measurement for you.

If you have no previous hoop size, use the placement check above and arrange a fitting before choosing a number by appearance alone.

What are 18G, 20G and 22G? How do I know mine?Gauge means wire thickness. A higher number is thinner.
18G1.0mm wire
20G0.8mm wire
22G0.6mm wire

If you don’t know yours, first check your piercing record, previous order or the specification of your current jewellery. Look for G / gauge or a measurement labelled wire thickness.

If you cannot find it, a piercer can measure your jewellery. An ordinary ruler or wearing photo cannot reliably distinguish these small differences.

Fine-looking does not automatically mean right for your piercing. Do not force a thicker wire through, or assume a thinner one will solve a fit problem.

I want it snug. How close should the hoop sit?Close-fitting should still feel comfortable.

A snug hoop should follow your nostril comfortably, without pulling the hole down, pinching or digging into the skin when your face moves.

A little visible space is not proof that the size is wrong. Your piercing position affects how the ring sits.

If it leaves an indentation or pulls your nostril out of shape, have the fit checked. Do not keep sizing down just to make the visible gap disappear.

Can you tell my size from a photo? We can discuss the fit; we cannot confirm exact millimetres from a photo alone.

You’re welcome to show us the look you want, even if you don’t know your size. A clear front and side photo with your face relaxed can help explain whether you want the ring closer or roomier.

Tell us whether you currently wear a stud or hoop, and whether there is pulling, pinching or an indentation. Include any measurements you have — it is fine if you don’t know them.

Camera angle and scale change how large a hoop looks. We may need to suggest an in-person measurement before we can help you compare sizes responsibly.

Someone else’s wearing photo can explain a style, but their size may not give you the same fit.

My current hoop looks too big — or feels too tight.A styling change and an uncomfortable fit need different next steps.

Comfortable, but you want less visible space? Find its current diameter first. Compare a nearby diameter while keeping the gauge the same, so you are changing one measurement at a time.

Pressure, pinching or an indentation? Ask your piercer to assess the fit rather than treating discomfort as a styling adjustment.

Reducing the diameter by 1mm does not mean the visible gap below your nostril shrinks by exactly 1mm. The whole circle changes size, and its position matters.

How do I measure a hoop I already own?Measure the opening inside, without including the wire.

First check the original order: it may already list the gauge and inner diameter.

If your piercing is fully healed and you can comfortably change the jewellery, measure a separate single hoop that already fits you beside a millimetre ruler. Do not flatten your double spiral to measure it. Place the reference hoop flat and measure across the widest inside opening, from one inner edge to the opposite inner edge.

INNER DIAMETERExclude the wire on both sides
Measurement illustration · not to scale

Do not measure around the curve, use the outside edges or bend the ring open to measure it.

For example, an 8mm inner diameter with 1mm wire is approximately 10mm across the outside. Ordering a 10mm inner diameter would give you a larger ring.

I wear a stud. Can I switch straight to a hoop?Post length is not hoop diameter, and readiness matters too.

A 6mm stud does not mean you need a 6mm hoop. The stud passes through the nostril; the hoop must also curve around its edge.

Wait until the piercing is fully healed and your piercer confirms it is ready. Looking settled on the outside, or reaching a calendar date, is not enough on its own.

Tenderness, crusting, swelling or a bump are reasons to have it assessed before changing. Glimmer Double spirals are for fully healed piercings.

Your product choices stay as you left them.

Two delicate hoops, just one piercing. Glimmer Double gives you a layered nostril look with a single continuous spiral, handmade in 14ct solid gold. The wire is hammered all around by hand, with softly irregular marks that catch the light. No two textures are exactly alike.

Gently rotate the spiral through one fully healed nostril piercing to reveal the double-hoop effect. Made to order in your chosen size, gauge, gold colour and left-hand or right-hand spiral. If you are unsure which direction to choose, message us before ordering.

The details that matter

A little more layering, with just one piercing. Get to know your handmade Glimmer Double Nostril Ring.

1. Why you’ll love it

A double-hoop look without a second piercing. Glimmer Double is formed from one continuous spiral, so two fine gold arcs sit beside each other around your nostril.

We hammer the wire all around, by hand. Each impression varies in size, depth and direction, giving every ring its own pattern. The finish is irregular throughout, rather than limited to the outer edge.

Choose a left-hand or right-hand spiral, alongside your preferred size, gauge and gold colour. Each piece is handmade to order for a fully healed nostril piercing.

2. Material & finish

Made from 14ct solid gold, never plated or gold-filled, with an all-over hand-hammered finish.

  • Yellow, white or rose gold
  • One continuous spiral creating two visible hoops through a single piercing
  • Fine wire with irregular, individually formed hammer marks
  • A unique texture on every piece; the photographs show the finish rather than an identical pattern
  • Left-hand and right-hand spiral versions
  • Made to order in your selected size and gauge
3. Choosing your size

The inner diameter is the space inside each loop, not the combined width of both hoops. Gauge is the thickness of the wire.

Choose the gauge of your current well-fitting jewellery: 18G = 1.0mm, 20G = 0.8mm and 22G = 0.6mm. Check the size options above for available diameters.

A single hoop that fits you can be a useful reference, but a double spiral sits differently. Your piercing angle, nostril thickness and room for both loops affect the fit. A smaller diameter should not pinch or pull your nostril.

Spiral direction is a separate choice. Left-hand and right-hand describe the winding of the jewellery, rather than a confirmed match to your left or right nostril. If you are unsure, message us before ordering so we can help you confirm the version you need.

4. Wearing your double hoop

This is a continuous spiral, rather than a single hoop with ends that close together. Guide one end into your fully healed piercing, then gently rotate the jewellery along its spiral until the two visible loops sit beside each other around your nostril.

Follow the winding of your chosen left-hand or right-hand version. Do not pull the coils apart or try to bring the two ends together as you would with a seamless single hoop.

If it does not move comfortably, stop rather than forcing it. A professional piercer can help with fitting and positioning.

5. A little something to unwrap

Your Glimmer Double ring arrives with:

  • One handmade Glimmer Double 14ct solid gold nostril ring, in your chosen size, gauge, gold colour and spiral direction
  • A STEPOY jewellery box
  • A STEPOY gift bag
  • A thank-you card

One piece creates the double-hoop effect; this is not a pair of separate rings.
