Helix Ring Size Guide

Every helix piercing has its size

Helix rings range from tiny 6mm hoops (for hidden and forward helix piercings) to 8mm statement rings. Your ideal size depends on your piercing location and how you want it to look.

6mm Snug fit for standard helix. Sits close against the ear, clean and subtle.
7-8mm The most popular range. Visible ring with a classic look. Works for most ear shapes. Most popular

Stacking tip: For a graduated double or triple helix stack, try consecutive sizes — e.g. 6mm, 7mm, 8mm from top to bottom.

Common Questions

What size hoop is best for a helix piercing?

7-8mm is the most popular range for standard helix piercings. For a double or triple helix stack, try graduated sizes like 6mm, 7mm, and 8mm.

Is 18G or 20G better for helix?

Both work well. 18G is the more common gauge for helix piercings in the UK — it's slightly thicker and gives a clean, visible line. 20G is a touch finer for a more delicate appearance. Check which gauge your piercer used, or ask them to measure.

When can I change my helix to a hoop?

Helix piercings typically need 3-6 months to heal enough for a jewellery change, though full healing can take up to 9 months. We recommend waiting at least 4 months and checking with your piercer first. Changing too early is the most common cause of helix piercing complications.

Can I use this for a forward helix?

Absolutely. Our smallest sizes — 6mm, 7mm, and 8mm — are specifically suited to forward helix piercings, where the anatomy requires a small, snug-fitting hoop. These tiny sizes are one of our specialities and are difficult to find elsewhere.
