How to Design a Custom Travel Tea Case with Your Name

Design Workshop (10-minute sprint)
Canvas: personalised STEPOY metal tin (3.94 × 3.94 × 0.39 in, inner 3.74 × 3.74 × 0.35 in).
Goal: a flat, crumb-proof travel tea case that looks so you, fits 3–5 sachets, and never goes missing.

Module 1 — Define the brief (90 seconds)

Purpose: travel / commute / gift?
Vibe: minimal · playful · elegant · outdoorsy · retro
Name on lid: full name / first name / initials / nickname
Must-have colours:
Icon hints (optional): plane · leaf · paw · heart · star
Copy line (optional, tiny): “Weekend Brew Kit” / “Decaf After 8”

Fill this quick card before you touch design. It keeps the result cohesive.

Module 2 — Pick a colour story (90 seconds)

  • High-visibility (easy to spot in dark bags): lime, coral, cobalt.

  • Calming (decaf/herbal kits): sage, mist, sand.

  • Gift-classic: navy, forest, wine.
Rule: 1 main + 1 accent (max). The tin is small—colour noise reads messy.

Module 3 — Choose a name style (2 minutes)

SERIF (quiet, timeless)

  • Layout: Initial · Surname

  • Works with: classic navy/forest + small icon (leaf/monogram).

SANS (clean, modern)

  • Layout: DEE (all caps, tight tracking)

  • Works with: bold colour pop + micro caption: “TRAVEL TEA”.

SCRIPT (soft, giftable)

  • Layout: Amelia’s Tea (medium weight)

  • Works with: florals, pastel lids.

MONO (techy, neat)

  • Layout: DEE_2025

  • Works with: map pin, grid lines, airport vibes.

Tip: Two lines tops. Avoid long quotes—3.94 in lid needs air.

Module 4 — Compose the lid (3 ways)

  1. Centre Stack (safe & balanced)

    • Line 1: Name (largest)

    • Line 2 (tiny): “Travel Tea” / “Desk Drawer”

    • Optional: icon above

  2. Top-Left Badge (designer-ish)

    • Small logo/initials in a 0.6–0.8 in badge

    • Plenty of negative space = luxe

  3. Ribbon Bar (bold colour band)

    • A 0.6–1.0 in horizontal strip with the name reversed out

    • Great for high-visibility colours

Grid: keep margins ~0.2 in; don’t hug the edges.

Module 5 — Add a tiny icon (optional)

  • Plane: frequent flyer set

  • Leaf: herbal/green

  • Paw: pet-person gift

  • Moon: night-shift/decaf kit
Keep icons sub-thumb-size (~0.35–0.5 in). Cute, not noisy.

Ready-to-Copy Lid Recipes

  • Minimal Monogram: Navy lid · serif initials “D · L” centre · tiny “Travel Tea” below.

  • Colour Pop Sans: Cobalt lid · all-caps “DEE” centre · 0.4 in white bar behind.

  • Herbal Soft Script: Sage lid · “Amelia’s Tea” script · 0.4 in leaf icon above.

  • Map Marker Mono: Coral lid · mono “DEE_2025” top-left · 0.5 in pin icon.

Inside the case (practical load-outs)

  • Daily Carry (3–4): 2 breakfast · 1 green · 1 herbal

  • Late Nights (4–5): 1 decaf · 2 herbal · 1 breakfast (+1 ginger)

  • Fly Day (3–4): 2 sturdy blacks · 1 peppermint (+1 green)

Stack corners alternating so the lid closes perfectly flush.

Print-ready checklist (60 seconds)

  • Text outlines processed / font embedded

  • Safe margin ≥ 0.2 in all sides

  • Colours high contrast on small type

  • Icon ≤ 0.5 in max height

  • Name spell-check (seriously)

  • Mock-up seen at actual size (3.94 in) on screen or paper

Care

Wipe clean; air open overnight after herbals; remove any dry bicarb used for deodorising before refilling.
